Forest Lake is fast becoming one of the Twin Cities' most affluent suburbs. The city got its modern-day beginnings as an "up north" destination for city dwellers, but as the Twin Cities continued to sprawl, the cabins were pushed further and further north, leaving fewer three-season cabins on the shores of Forest Lake, and more fully functioning, even luxurious homes and permanent residents. As more people discover the beautiful and convenient location, this is sure to be a developing community for years to come. Forest Lake became a city in 1974 and was named after the timbre-rich shoreline surrounding the area lake. The city is conveniently located about 30 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
Forest Lake offers a number of amenities to residents including numerous community and neighborhood parks, farmers market, community theater program and adult and kids year-round sports leagues with horseback riding being particularly prominent in this area-many stables offering lessons and clubs. Forest Lake is also a "familiar face" at state high school tournaments, and enjoys a widely recognized reputation as a hockey town-many community functions center around the successful men's and women's sports teams.
Then, of course, there's the lake, providing lots of warm-weather recreation with trails, beaches, fishing and boating, as well as being a prime destination for ice fishing in the winter months. That's right, there's never an "off" season for Minnesota Lakes. Whether you're stepping in from the cold or seeking refuge in the summer, stop by Kodiak Coffee, where the owner will know your name after you've ordered a couple of your usual large-white-skim-light whip mochas. Chain dining is abundant here; you'll find the local Subway, Pizza Hut, Burger King and Applebee's compellingly convenient.
Homes here span a range of sizes, styles and budgets. Purchase a newly developed lakefront property with all the fine touches including big picture windows, wrap-around deck, hot tub and immaculate landscaping down to your own private dock. Another option is a smaller, lakeside property-one of those restored cabins from the city's earlier days, or go inland to one of the beautiful new cul de sacs or cozy neighborhoods across the city. Depending on location, homes range from towering, multi-level mansions to single-story quaint ramblers to the modern town home or condo. Forest Lake is a family-friendly community and a great place to retreat from the hectic pace of life.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Forest Lake, MN was $278,585. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
