Belle Isle, meaning "beautiful island," is located in thriving Orange County. Also known as "the airport area," Belle Isle is superbly sited approximately three miles northwest of Orlando International Airport; five miles south of Orlando; approximately 30 minutes from Disney World; about one hour from Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral; and approximately 90 minutes from Bush Gardens in Tampa.
Public transportation is available in Belle Isle from the Lynx Bus System that serves a 2,500-square-mile area in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties.
Belle Isle's gorgeous Conway-Chain-of-Lakes, has a long history. Starting as far back as 800 A.D. it is believed that these captivating shores were inhabited by ancestors of the Timucuan Indians whose artifacts were found in the soil of freshly tilled orange groves in this area.
The city of Belle Isle was first formed in 1924 and had an active city government until about 1938. The city government became active again around 1954 and now operates under a council-city manager form of government and has only 10 paid employees.
Close to all of the amenities of Orlando, Belle Isle offers many opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty that is part of this sought-after location. Lovely Lagoon Park has walking trails, a pond, a grassy area, and picnic tables; Perkins Boat Ramp is available to launch your boat for an exciting day on the sparkling Florida waters; and Swann Beach offers a park, swimming, and is accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers thanks to a sidewalk and deck with a ramp. The deck from Swann Beach overlooks Lake Conway.
Part of the Orange County Public School System, Belle Isle has eight elementary schools, four middle schools, and four high schools. There are also numerous private schools in this area as well.
Charming Belle Isle is an affluent community that covers approximately four square miles and has a population of about 7,000. A variety of home styles can be found in Belle Isle including older homes with brick exteriors and new construction of Florida-style and Spanish-style homes. Many homes in Belle Isle offer lakefront living or are located in close proximity to lakes.
