Located in Volusia County off of Interstate 4, just a few miles off of Exit 116, is the small community of Cassadaga. A Seneca Indian word meaning "water beneath the rocks;" Cassadaga is located about 35 miles north of Orlando and 30 miles southwest of Daytona Beach.
Cassadaga was formed in 1894 as a winter home for northern spiritualists, George P. Colby, the town's founder, who was led through the wilderness by his spirit guide, Seneca, to this spot. The old Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp as well as Colby Memorial Temple still stands in this location. Over 100 years later, Cassadaga is still a refuge for mediums, psychics, astrologers, and spiritualists to continue their work.
There is no gas station, grocery store, pharmacy, or bank in this rural Florida community. There is a post office, a bookstore in the center of town where visitors may shop and learn about spiritualism and get a reading from a certified medium. Across the street from the camp, is a school that teaches psychic tools.
Quiet and content, there are no condos or apartments in this ghost-whisperer utopia. Single-family homes in Cassadaga range in price from $179,000 to $599,000. Single-family homes for sale are a mix of homes from the 1970s and more recent 2005. Lots and land are also available from $50,000 to $75,000.
If moving to Cassadaga with school-age children, be sure to check with your realtor to see which one of the Volusia County Public Schools your child would be assigned.
