Sorrento’s plentiful pine forests led to the industry of turpentine stills and lumber mills for the first residents of Sorrento. The lyrical name “Sorrento” came from a book titled “Agnes of Sorrento” that describes the fruits and flowers of Italy’s Sorrento so beautifully that the residents of these rolling hills were inspired to name their new town by a majority vote in honor of this book.
