Crosby is a census-designated place (CDP) in northeast Harris County, approximately 40 minutes from downtown Houston. Located on Farm Road 2100 near the Southern Pacific tracks two miles north of State Highway 90 and just outside the Houston city limits in eastern Harris County.
Unlike most of the old railroad and cotton settlements turned bedroom communities in northern Harris County, one needn't look far to find its rural roots firmly in place. The convenience offered by the new Super Wal-Mart still hasn't quite settled in with the old-timers. Crosby, population 1,714, hosts several banks, various restaurants ranging from excellent Chinese to an assortment of Mexican eateries. Krogers meets the area's grocery needs and shares a strip mall with a locally owned hardware, auto parts, and antique and other retail businesses.
For nightlife, residents frequent Lying Larry's for happy hour, the occasional improv guitar jam or, on Thursday and Friday nights, the excellent shrimp and steak buffet. Overall, the place rates as a hometown family bar and grill. Crosby students attend school in the Crosby Independent School District.
In May 2008, the average sales price for a single family home or condo in Crosby, TX was $132,409. This information is gleaned from the MLS, and while deemed reliable, is not guaranteed.|
