The city of Weston is a community of gated developments, located in west Broward County. The city has a total population of about 63,534. Weston is home to an 800 year old Tequesta Indian burial mound and lies on the edge of the Everglades. It was also ranked as the city with largest job growth in Florida and 18th largest in the nation.
The city began as a development originally known as Indian Trace. The name of the development was changed from Indian Trace to Weston, and in 1984 the first homes were completed in Windmill Ranch and Country Isles, and Weston had its first residents. The city has expanded to include the conservation area along US 27 westward to the L-35 levee from SR 84 to Griffin Road, and the I-75/SR 84 corridor to the north. The city's total land mass is now 16,539 acres, or 25.8 square miles.
Weston offers an abundance of local parks, waterways, community centers, tennis centers and golf courses within a short distance of its neighborhoods. The city also offers many organized sports and art programs through their extensive parks department. The majority of its residents are employed outside the community however; attractive housing opportunities make this area and its welcoming neighborhoods a popular place to live. In between enjoy rodeos in Davie, jazz festivals on Fort Lauderdale's Riverwalk, the annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and assorted arts and food festivals throughout Broward County.
Weston offers quiet residential suburban neighborhoods minutes to all of the action found in an urban city. The city is ideally located midway between Palm Beach and Miami and offers direct access to The Hollywood/ Fort Lauderdale International Airport, and Downtown Fort Lauderdale's fine dining; shopping and entertainment.
