Tamarac is located in the western portion of central Broward County. This central location makes it a key city for business, leisure and recreation. Once a fledgling senior retirement community in the early 1960's, a young millionaire named Ken Behring came from the Midwest and bought up all the land and then started to build. He originally made his fortune with a chain of carwashes called Car-A-Mat. He called his new city Tamarac, Car-A-Mat spelled backwards, and the name remains.

Residents enjoy a full service Parks and Recreation Department that provide a variety of programs, classes, events and services for residents of all ages, seven days a week. From leisure activities, summer camp, educational and training seminars, fitness and athletics, teen and cultural activities Tamarac offers something for everyone. In addition to Federal post offices located nearby, a substantial UPS shipping and distribution facility is also located in Lauderhill. Tamarac encompasses 12 square miles, with a population of over 59,000 and contains an abundance of fine single and multi-family residences. The Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport is a short drive southeast of the city. Tamarac offers easy access to the beaches and other local attractions in Broward, Palm Beach and Dade counties.
