Sunrise, located in western Broward County, is home to 90,000+ residents. Originally called "Sunset," the name did not sit well with the retirees whom developers wanted to attract, so a change was made to "Sunrise." Situated in the heart of the tri-county region, Sunrise is the gateway to a vast number of business, residential and entertainment. Sunrise hosts over 100 corporations. Some examples are companies like HBO Latin America, Sony and Sprint PCS. Sunrise is synonymous with great retail, thanks to Sawgrass Mills, a 2.7-million-square-foot shopping mecca that welcomes approximately 25 million visitors each year, making it the state's second-biggest tourist attraction after Disney World.
East Sunrise is home to many gated and un-gated residential communities. It offers a wide variety of housing choices including, townhouses, condominiums and homes to fit any budget. There are many local parks, waterways, community centers and golf courses within a short distance of most neighborhoods. The city offers an assortment of recreational opportunities, including a soccer club, golf courses, a tennis club, playgrounds and municipal swimming pools. Residents also enjoy a Senior Center and a Civic Center complex featuring a 300-seat theater, an art gallery and banquet facilities.
Sunrise has something for everyone from The BankAtlantic Center, home of the Florida Panthers to Wannado City, an indoor interactive environment for children. The city also boasts its own 65-member professional symphony, the Sunrise Symphonic Pops Orchestra. Sunrise offers award-winning park facilities, including Sawgrass Sanctuary, a 20-acre park and learning center that features a hiking/bicycling trail, fishing pier and boardwalk. Sunrise is also home to a tennis club, which features 11 Hydrocourt clay courts and 4 asphalt-based cushioned courts - as well as a clubhouse with a players' lounge, pro shop and locker rooms. If golf is your game, choose from the city's Springtree Golf Club or the Sunrise Country Club or escape to the Sunrise Ice Skating Center on those hot afternoons.
If you are looking for a well maintained, family oriented community with fine dining, shopping and entertainment Sunrise may be the place for you. The city is just a short commute from to the Fort Lauderdale and the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
In April 2008 the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Sunrise, FL was $146,346. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
