Pembroke Pines is the heart of family living, centrally located on the southern edge of Broward County between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. The city took its name from its location along Pembroke Road and the many pine trees in the area. It was started by people seeking space to spread out. They discovered miles of country in the mid-1950s, and began settling in what was then the distant country side of the seaside city of Hollywood. Once the eastern sections of Pembroke Pines became built-out the developers began constructing planned gated communities west of I-75 these communities are known as West Pembroke Pines. A vibrant family oriented area, it boasts excellent park and recreational facilities and exceptional schools.
There is always something to do in Pembroke Pines. If you enjoy outdoors, Flamingo Gardens, botanical gardens and wild life sanctuary is a must. It features a touch of history with 60 acres of lush gardens, showcasing rare exotic and native plants. Tour the citrus groves and the Wray Botanical Collection. Explore the "Free-Flight" Aviary, Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary and historic Wray Home. There are also 2 world class golf courses, namely The Grand Palms Golf & Country Club and Rain Tree Golf Resort. The city is home to campuses for Broward Community Collage, Florida International University and the main branch of the Broward Library. North Perry Airport, located on the southeast corner of Pines and University, is a general aviation airport devoted exclusively to private and business light-plane activity.
A growing community, Pembroke Pines--nicknamed "Pines" by the locals--is dotted with little league parks and overflowing with fun family activities.
