The village of Virginia Gardens is a full service well-planned community of homes, apartments, and businesses. Located northwest of Miami it has managed to keep a quaint small town ambiance with all the comforts of a big city. The Village Beautification Committee has spent many years working diligently planting trees and encouraging residents to maintain the parkways adjacent to their homes. Virginia Gardens still remains a community united in enhancing the beauty of its land. The Village's southern boundary is Miami International Airport, making it a prime commercial address. Only a fifteen-minute drive from downtown Miami, the Village is centrally located and is an oasis in the midst of the urban sprawl of Miami-Dade County, the "Gateway of the Americas."

The tiny enclave of Virginia Gardens was born out of the love of horses. The Village had its origins as a breakaway town inhabited primarily by Virginians and their beloved horses, the town severed from Miami Springs in the 1940's when the city passed an ordinance prohibiting the keeping of horses. Virginia Gardens became a community of barns, horses and even a duck farm. Most of the original residents lived on estates of approximately five acres and owned horses for pleasure and riding.

The original vision for Virginia Gardens was tree-lined streets. This vision lead to the creation of the Beautification Committee. It began as a program of positive public relations in which the Committee planted trees in the swale areas for residents and on Town Hall property. The committee even planted trees on the ball field to provide shade for the recreation program. Today, the Beautification Committee's scope is much broader. They are consulted on landscaping issues throughout the village. The committee has been the strongest advisor on the cutting of trees for the Village property and also the residents. After Hurricane Andrew devastated Miami-Dade County, they took a much closer look at the preparation of the village before the beginning of hurricane season each year. It is the commitment of this committee's members that keeps the Virginia Gardens looking as it does today.
