The meticulously planned city of Miami Lakes, Florida is more hometown than metropolis. Located in Northern Miami-Dade County Miami Lakes is close to everything. A traditional Main Street anchors curvy residential streets, tasteful corporate parks and lots of lakes and green spaces. Enjoy fine dining and shopping in the quaint ambience created by old-fashioned lamps, colorful striped awnings and brick sidewalks. Live entertainment is featured weekly and art and music festivals take place throughout the year in Miami Lakes, Florida. The highways northeast of Miami Lakes lead to two major sporting facilities: Dolphin Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Marlins; and Calder Race Course, where thoroughbreds race.
The original Miami Lakes development, east of the Palmetto Expressway, was master planned by Lester Collins with curving tree-shaded roadways and numerous curving lakes which are unusual compared to most surrounding areas with treeless streets on a square grid and rectangular lakes. This original development, which is on the east side of the more recently designated Town of Miami Lakes, has neighborhood shopping centers, tot-lot parks, and a town center named Main Street. A significant portion of Miami Lakes is still owned by the developers, mostly apartment buildings, shopping centers, office buildings and still undeveloped land. The Town is an early model of the new urbanism movement with shopping and services located in walking distance of residences as well as narrow walkable streets and plenty of neighborhood parks.
Miami Lakes enjoys an active recreation department. Residents benefit from many community programs or enjoy activities and events held by the city throughout the year. There is a bustling community center and fantastic parks grounds that include tot-lots and playgrounds. The city parks boast baseball, softball and soccer fields, and organized children's sports programs.
Centrally located Miami Lakes offers proximity to many attractions and easy access to both Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. South of Miami Lakes you will find internationally renowned Miami with it's glitz and glamour. North is the fabulous city of Fort Lauderdale with its nightlife, dining and entertainment. Miami Lakes is right in the middle of it all, offering proximity to a host of recreational activities including: Countless art museums and cultural attractions, Metrozoo, Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Museum of science and Planetarium and the brand New Miami Children's Museum.
In April 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Miami Lakes, FL was $317,273. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
