Situated between South Miami and the Everglades, Kendall is a vibrant community. It is proud to boast about its strong sense of community, excellent park and recreational facilities and exceptional schools. It has a large number of gated and un-gated communities in its residential areas and superb shopping centers close to the Downtown area of Miami making it a popular suburban community in Miami-Dade County.
Kendall's greatest advantage over neighboring communities it the wide variety of housing choices it offers. Newcomers are able to select from virtually any neighborhood in the area and find a great number of townhouses, condominiums and homes to fit any budget. There are many local parks, waterways, community centers and golf courses within a short distance of most neighborhoods. Residents take part in a variety of community events during the year.
The city's educational system is an impressive arrangement of public and private schools while the local road and highway network is constantly improving. Metrorail services the area with fast, reliable transportation to downtown. Residents are close to the Tamiami Airport, the Miami Zoo and the ocean. Kendall is mainly a commuting town since a majority of its 77,000 residents are employed outside the community. However, attractive housing opportunities make this area and its welcoming neighborhoods a popular place to live.
The community was named after Major Kendall, an executive of the British Land Company that had surveyed and mapped many areas of Florida. The population is around 75,226 and the median household income is $51,330. Kendall is home to one of Miami's general aviation airports, the Kendall Tamiami Executive Airport.
Kendall is right in the middle of it all. Close to the finest nightlife restaurants and boutiques. It is surrounded by the world renowned cities of Miami, Coconut Grove and Miami Beach and is only 30 minutes away Miami International Airport. The city also offers proximity to a host of recreational activities including: Metrozoo, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Parrot Jungle and Gardens, the Miami Museum of science and Planetarium and the brand New Miami Children's Museum. With the sprawling expanse of the Everglades to the west, the pristine Biscayne National Park to the east, the glitz and glamour of Miami to the north and the Florida Keys to the south, Kendall offers something for everyone.
