Hallandale Beach is located in Broward County east of US-1 at the center of a tri-county metropolitan area. Here, residents and visitors alike enjoy world class shopping, miles of pristine beaches and easy access to international air and sea ports. The area that is now known as Hallandale Beach was settled in the late 1800's, when Henry Flagler expanded the Florida East Coast Railway to Palm Beach in 1895. Flagler recruited Luther Halland, son of a Swedish minister and brother-in-law to one of Flagler's agents, to start a Swedish settlement south of the Danish settlement of Dania. With the assistance of an immigrant named Olaf Zetterlund, Halland began promoting the frost-free subtropical climate and cheap land of Halland (later to be named Hallandale). Halland set up a small trading post in the new community and became its first postmaster.

Hallandale Beach is a small coastal town featuring a mixture of new and old high-rises and hotels lining both sides of A1A. With a median age of 52.7 years the majority of its populace are retirees and vacationers, but in recent years a younger demographic of residents have begun to move in to the new condominiums being built. Its state-of-the-art cultural community center is a newly renovated 13,700 square foot facility designed to house programs for the visual and performing arts, education, special events and community rentals. The cultural community center serves the community with entertainment and activities for all ages and is available for rent by the public for parties, weddings, meetings, dinners, dances and educational classes. Hallandale Beach is also home to Gulfstream Racing and Casino (formerly Gulfstream Park.)
