Hallandale is located in Broward County west of US-1 at the center of a tri-county metropolitan area. Here, residents can enjoy world class shopping, miles of pristine beaches and easy access to international air and sea ports. The area was settled in the late 1800's, when Henry Flagler expanded the Florida East Coast Railway to Palm Beach in 1895.
Flagler recruited Luther Halland, son of a Swedish minister and brother-in-law to one of Flagler's agents, to start a Swedish settlement south of the Danish settlement of Dania. With the assistance of an immigrant named Olaf Zetterlund, Halland began promoting the frost-free subtropical climate and cheap land of Halland (later to be named Hallandale). Halland set up a small trading post in the new community and became its first postmaster. Originally Hallandale was a farming community and used nearby beaches for recreation.
Hallandale offers businesses, residents and visitors a combination of specialty lineups such as Fashion Row, The Diplomat Mall, an array of medical and professional offices, the year round Hollywood Dog Track and Flea Market, a manufacturing and industrial district, and a financial district, often referred to as the "Wall Street" of the South.
Hallandale's residents are both ethnically and economically diverse. The city lies between Aventura and Hollywood on the southern border of Broward County. It features a thriving recreation department that offers many programs, activities and events. Its shares a state-of-the-art, newly renovated, 13,700 square foot cultural community center with Hallandale Beach that offers programs for the visual and performing arts, education, special events and community rentals. The cultural community center serves the community with entertainment and activities for all ages and is available for rent by the public for parties, weddings, meetings, dinners, dances and educational classes.
Adjacent to international seaports and airports, Hallandale offers a mix of beautiful weather, proximity to world-class beaches and fabulous recreational activities. Hallandale is only minutes to Aventura, fine dining, shopping and the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale International Airport.
In April 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Hallandale, FL was $290,389. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
