Medley, named for town founder, Sylvester Medley, was incorporated in 1949. Twenty years later, this primarily industrial town had grown to include about 325 light-to-heavy industries, while its population increased to 250 residents. The town is located less than 5 miles from Miami International Airport. Medley has received recognition as the largest-growing industrial community in the Greater Miami-Dade County area. Today Medley is proud of its over 1,500 businesses and approximately 1,000 permanent residents. During business hours the working population swells to over 30,000.

Medley is governed by a full-time Mayor, a Vice Mayor and three other council members and offers all amenities to its citizens: A police department fully trained, staffed and equipped to handle any call or emergency at all times, especially industrial security. It has a state-of-art regional firearms training center, consisting of three firing ranges and a SWAT tower. The center also offers classroom facilities, vending area and covered patios. It is available to all municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies for a nominal fee. Medley also boasts a public works department which maintains all roads, collects and removes all solid waste, and performs numerous other town duties. It has a water department capable of installing and maintaining water and sewer lines. Three code enforcement officers and a seven-member code enforcement board which adjudicates code violators as well as, building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspectors. A Parks and Recreation Department which oversees town activities and programs and a Hot Meal Program round out the services that Medley has to offer.

The town is located conveniently to all forms of transportation. There are two airports only minute's away, major expressway connectors, as well as railroads - especially the FEC Railroad freight line and sidings, serving many Medley businesses along its tracks. March, 1991 marked the grand opening of the Medley Lakeside Retirement Park, a beautiful mobile home park for Medley's senior citizens on fixed incomes.

Medley is convenient to the Miami International Airport. Close everything Miami has to offer nearby amenities include Vizcaya Museum, Miami City Ballet, New World Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, Miami Art Museum, Gusman Center for the Performing Arts and Coconut Grove Playhouse. Being an urban area also puts many transportation options within easy reach. Metro-Mover and Metro-Rail give you access to downtown and all of Miami, and the connecting Tri-Rail can take you north to Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach.
