Known for its serene beaches, Deerfield Beach is located in northeastern Broward County, on the Atlantic Ocean, just two miles south of the Palm Beaches and twenty miles north of Fort Lauderdale.

In the early 1900's when the railroad tracks running through Deerfield were bordered on both sides by pineapple patches, train passengers did a double take. As soon as the train stopped to take on water, some leaped off to snatch the exotic fruit. Today, the pineapples are no more, and Deerfield Beach is a thriving coastal city. Although primarily an agricultural community until the late 1940's, now Deerfield Beach is considered a tourist Mecca and in the year 2000 received the Blue Wave award for one of the most pristine beaches in the State of Florida.

Deerfield Beach is a dynamic coastal community of more than 77,000 residents. Whether you are a resident, business or visitor, the community has many programs and recreational activities that will interest you. Deerfield Beach's name was chosen because of the numerous deer that grazed along the Hillsboro River, which formed the northern boundary of the city. The city is host to the Women's Professional Volleyball Association Tour and Superboat Power Race and features great recreational programs and green space. Deerfield Beach boasts 266 developed acres of parks at 30 sites.

The recreation amenities available throughout the City include a gymnasium, several outdoor basketball courts, two roller hockey rinks, tennis courts and several tot lots. Award winning beaches, mini-parks, neighborhood parks, community parks and nature preserves abound in this area. In addition, a wide variety of recreational, social and cultural programs are available at their community centers. The Department sponsors a wide variety of special events throughout the year including Mango Festival, Founder's Day, Beach Blowout, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Women's Professional Volleyball, the Super Boat Grand Prix and Moonlight Melodies Summer Beach Concerts.

Deerfield Beach's commitment to education is evident in three of its public elementary schools and its middle school which has all recently received the state of Florida's highest grade based upon academic performance. Moreover, Deerfield Beach High School's International Baccalaureate Program is considered one of the most rigorous college preparatory programs in South Florida.
