The motto for the city of Aventura is The City of Excellence. As one of Miami-Dade's newest communities, it is young and vibrant with a diverse demographic base. Aventura is recognized internationally as a premier location in which to live, shop and play. Just 3.2 square miles, Aventura is on the Intracoastal Waterway in northeast Miami-Dade County and is conveniently located between Miami Airport & Ft. Lauderdale airport and two of the largest and most popular seaports in the world.

The name Aventura is from the Spanish word for adventure the city was named after the Aventura Mall. Most of what would later become the city of Aventura was developed during the 1970s as a high-rise residential area. At the time the area was still mostly swampland known as Biscayne Gardens. Some of the Miami area's tallest condominium towers are located here.

Aventura is an upscale condo, townhome and single family home community with some of South Florida's best-known large-scale condominium projects and apartment buildings. Restaurants, movie theaters and the Aventura Mall are convenient nearby and downtown Fort Lauderdale and Miami are just 25 minutes away.

Since the City's incorporation millions of dollars have been spent on infrastructure improvements including streets, sidewalks, lighting, park development, beautification projects, drainage, pedestrian and safety improvements.

A state-of-the-art Government Center provides a one-stop-shop for residents and houses all governmental operations, including Commission Chambers, Police Station and administrative offices. A new $4 million Community/Recreation Center situated on 2.8 acres of land in a park like setting on the waterfront. This 25,000 square foot facility includes a gym, meeting rooms, computer lab, exercise and aerobic facilities. Aventura also boasts the first municipal-run charter school in Miami-Dade County.

In order to address the growing number of families with school age children, the City Commission chose to take an aggressive approach to meet its changing demographics. Doors opened to the Aventura City of Excellence School in the fall of 2003 which is adjacent to the new Community Recreation Center. The 45,000 square foot state-of-the-art school serves 600 Aventura schoolchildren from kindergarten to 6th grade.

Aventura features beautiful landscaping surround by water, modern buildings and luxurious single-family homes. Royal palms line the roadways and vast variety of colorful flowers covers Aventura Boulevard and Country Club Drive medians. Aventura Founders Park is located in the middle of the city with a waterside path popular with exercisers, a playground for the children, tennis courts and an athletic field.
