Due to the area's prevalent agricultural heritage, Woodbine features pastoral farm houses with accommodating multi-acre lots, as well as majestic old estate homes dating back from the early 20th century. Most homes in Woodbine, however, were built after the 1980's and are arranged within neatly organized subdivisions. Both older homes and new luxury constructions sit upon at least an acre of land, which varies from wooded lots to expansive yards. Homes in Woodbine are single family dwellings, most with three to four bedrooms, and come in any number of styles, from quaint clapboard cottages to brick ranchers.
For most of its existence, Woodbine has remained in relative obscurity as a peaceful farming community, however, during the Civil War, confederate soldiers crossed through Woodbine as they journeyed to the famed Battle at Gettysburg. During the 1920's and 1930's, Industry came to Woodbine in the form of a now-defunct canning factory.
Although Woodbine is primarily a residential community, a number of attractions can be found in nearby Westminster. The largest town in Carroll County, Westminster features the Cranberry Mall, with a number of popular retailers. Other popular destinations include the Dutch Market and numerous restaurants and antique shops. Carroll Community College and McDaniel College are also close by and offer a wealth of community activities. Within the town of Woodbine, outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the Ramblin' Pines Campground for its swimming pools, picnic pavilions, playground, and team sports and recreational activities.
Schools in Woodbine are part of the Howard County School System, which are consistently the top rated schools in Maryland. The school system includes numerous Maryland State Blue Ribbon Award winners and has the highest approval rating among parents in the state.
In March 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo was $722,500. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
