Tate is an unincorporated town located in Pickens County. The area is accessible by Highway 515 and Highway 53. The town is named for Colonel Sam Tate, an enterprising businessman who discovered the rare, bright pink marble that the area is famous for. Homeowners will enjoy breathtaking views of the Appalachian Mountains and the tranquility of country living. The town is located nearly 60 miles from the City of Atlanta.

One of the town's most treasured landmarks is the Tate House. This historic home converted into a restaurant and bed and breakfast, is the former family estate of the town's namesake, Colonel Sam Tate.
