Conveniently situated between Dallas and Fort Worth, the city of Coppell boasts big assets in small surroundings. This close-knit community takes pride in its small-town values and big city ideas. A weekly trip to the nearby Kroger or Tom Thumb turns into a friendly gathering place for neighbors. Friday and Saturday nights at Ole's or Anamia's Mexican restaurants are regular family outings. You cannot go anywhere here without running into someone you know. A network of interstate and state highway systems surrounding the city makes travel through the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, easy and affordable for citizens and businesses.

Coppell is located within minutes of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. And as a result, big-time businesses such as The Container Store and Minyards Food Stores, Inc. call this city their home.

Although Coppell is thought of as a relatively young city (incorporated in 1955), its roots can be traced back to the early 1880's. In 1832, the farming community of "Grapevine Springs" was organized in the vicinity of the present-day Grapevine Springs Park. The springs area was utilized as campgrounds and was reportedly the location where Sam Houston signed a treaty with the local Indians. Settlers began moving to the area in the 1840's, and 1873, the community became known as "Gibbs," in honor of former Texas Senator and Lieutenant Governor Barnett Gibbs. The community changed its name again in 1890 - this time to "Coppell," in honor of George Coppell, the engineer credited with bringing the railroad to the community.

Today, a handful of historical landmark buildings still reside in the city including an old-time barbershop located in Old Town Coppell, and the Bethel Cemetery, which is located at Christi Lane and Moore Road.

City amenities include the Coppell Aquatics and Recreation Center; Andy Brown Park; and the resident-built, all-wooden structure, Kid Kountry. This park is a favorite among preschool kids and their parents and includes swings, picnic tables, and lots of shade. During the spring and fall in old downtown Coppell, visitors and residents enjoy browsing the farmers market every Saturday morning.

The Coppell Independent School District is one of the main reasons that folks flock to this area. In the past, the district has repeatedly been rated "exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency, and is also surrounded by quality public, private, and community colleges including University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, and Southern Methodist University.

Since Coppell is over 50 years old, there are some mature neighborhoods, though few and far between, offer shady trees, larger lots, and ranch-style homes. Since Coppell has seen expansive growth over the last 15 years, newer home developments are more prevalent. Big backyards, however, are sacrificed for larger footprints and contemporary floor plans.
