Pronounced "Umble", with a silent H, the discovery of oil here, on the heels of the famous "Spindletop" discovery in Beaumont, transformed this sleepy lumberjack community into a major player in Houston's emergent petro-chemical industry. Seemingly overnight, railroad lines were linked and the first tanker of Humble oil was steaming down the tracks.

The Humble oil fields are still active today and petroleum remains the basis of the city's economy. Loch Energy is headquartered in Humble; the city was the namesake for Humble Oil, which later merged with the Exxon Corporation. With a population of 14,579, Humble is a classic small town with the major metro benefits.

A mere 21 minutes from downtown Houston and virtually adjacent to Bush Intercontinental Airport, Humble residents enjoy convenient access to major Houston thoroughfares creating a seamless interweaving of rural and urban lifestyles.
