Atascocita is an area six miles east of Humble with a population of 35,757. The heavily wooded area was once a possession of the Spanish government and served as a stronghold against the French. Atascocita and its neighboring community of Walden hug nearby Lake Houston. Concentrated home building in this area began in 1975. Prices range from the $50's to the low $100s. This suburban community offers large, country-club style homes as well as smaller homes in well-planned subdivisions. Humble ISD serves more than 18,000 students in its 18 schools that cover a 90 square mile area. Other school districts in this region are Aldine, North Forest, Sheldon and Crosby.
