League City is located near the Texas Gulf Coast, a mere twenty miles southeast of Houston. Just across from Clear Lake and directly on I 45, major railway lines and the Houston Shipping Channel, League City (pop. 61,490), has grown into the fifth largest city in Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area.
Settled at the former site of a Karankawa Indian village, early League City founders must have agreed with the wisdom of the location. Dairy farms and variety of crops including Satsuma oranges, cotton, corn, potatoes, sugarcane, cucumbers and strawberries were raised and sold in the beginning. However, as for most Texas Gulf Coast towns in the vicinity, Spindletop changed everything.
But League City is not content on resting on its laurels as a refining and shipping town. Major sectors of League City's economic base include aerospace (NASA), petrochemicals, health care, upscale commercial, boating and visitor attractions. The area is home to the third largest concentration of pleasure boats in the United States. Business location features in the League City area include a well-educated and highly technical workforce, a convenient worldwide transportation network and a diverse and expanding economic base.
These features, along with the support of local government, combine to make League City the most natural destination to grow your business. Relocating employees will find that for the same amount of money, or less, they can afford larger, more comfortable homes in League City than in the cities from which they relocated. According to the American Chamber of Commerce Researchers Association Cost of Living Index, a 2,400 square-foot home in the Houston Bay Area costs less than it would in U.S. cities of comparable size.
Based on year 2000 census data, there were 16,189 households in League City. Clear Creek Independent School District is based in League City, and serves pupils in the Harris County portion and most of the Galveston County portion. Most pupils in League City attend schools in Clear Creek Independent School District. Some in Galveston County attend school in Dickinson Independent School District and Santa Fe Independent School District.
In May 2008, the average sales price for a single family home or condo in League City, TX was $230,289. This information is gleaned from MLS sources, and while deemed reliable, is not guaranteed.|
