Taylor Lake Village is a city of about 4,200 residents, tucked away in southeastern Harris County twenty minutes from downtown Houston. Taylor Lake Village is located in the area between Houston and Galveston, across Taylor Lake from El Lago. Both communities are mainly residential ones for the Houston Bay area. Taylor Lake Village was incorporated in December 1961 as a unique enclave for employees of NASAs Manned Spacecraft Center and the shipping and aeronautical industries that surround the area. To preserve the residential character of the community, the town permits no business establishments within its corporate limits. As of the year 2000 census, Taylor Lake Village had 1,341 households with 36 percent reporting children under the age of 18 living with them. 80 percent of the households included married couples living together. School children attend Clear Creek Independent School District schools. In 1964 residents complained of water pollution, and in 1965 tests were made to determine levels of radiation in local waters.
