Names can convey a great deal about a community: Its location, climate, and predominant foliage or geographical features perhaps. Rarely does a name capture a city's true essence, its values and attitude toward life that endures over 200 years after its inception. But when the City's Quaker founders decided on Friendswood as the name of their new community 30 miles south of Houston, they couldn't have picked a more accurate description of this unique community.
Since the 1980's Friendswood's population has exploded along with Houston's petrochemical and shipping industry. Friendswood is now home to more than 34,000 and encompasses parts of both Galveston and Harris County. A mere 3 miles west of IH-45, halfway between Houston and Galveston, Friendswood now encompasses 21 square miles and is over 70% developed.
There is still ample room for growth--commercially, industrially and residentially. The early homes the Quakers constructed may be gone, but the legacy, heritage and way of life they established could not be in better shape. Friendswood is home to a well-educated, professional resident base of affluent executives, managers and supervisors. The area's low cost of living and thriving economy has kept the city stocked with a range of housing options well within the range of solid middle class families as well.
Membership to the more exclusive luxury home subdivisions can run over $1 million. Master-planned communities are the norm for new construction homes, with resale homes in a variety of architectural styles in neighboring subdivisions and communities also plentiful. Friendswood also boasts some of the best independent and assisted living housing in Texas.
Friendswood features a vibrant business-friendly atmosphere. From office buildings and shopping centers to retail outlets and mixed-use projects, new developments are consistently on the horizon. Though from diverse locations, Friendswood residents share a similar attraction to the city's family-oriented amenities, abundant parks, natural greenbelts, championship golf courses and superior school system.
In May 2008, the average sales price for a single family home or condo in Friendswood, TX was $153,448. This information is gleaned from the MLS, and while deemed reliable, is not guaranteed.|
