Originally centered around NASA's Johnson Space Center, Clear Lake City remains a hub for aerospace technology, harboring some of the country's major engineering firms including Lockheed Martin and McDonnell Douglas. With expanding borders now covering 23 square miles, and population-nearing 60,000, Clear Lake has become a hot spot for urban professionals looking to draw a clearer distinction between work and family.

The majority of the community lies in the corporate limits of Houston, while a small eastern portion is in the city limits of Pasadena.

Most of the schools in Clear Lake ISD are ranked exemplary by the Texas Education Agency. Clear Lake High School, widely considered one of the better high schools in the state. The University of Houston Clear Lake is also banked here, offering a number of graduate and post-graduate programs.
