The downtown district features older Cape Cod residences and ranch-style home built primarily in the 1920s and 1930s. There is some renovation of older homes taking place, and some of the newest neighborhoods include upscale developments with large, custom-built homes. In August, 2006, a two-bedroom, two-bath condominium in Glenwood was priced at $207,000; a three-bedroom, two-bath single-family home was listed for $299,900. Many residences in Glenwood are conveniently located within walking distance of the area's schools and shopping districts. The community is also served by one parochial school and two private schools. The 18-hole Glenwoodie Golf Course at 193rd and State Streets provides one recreational option for residents. They can also relax at the five park sites and two nature preserves that are located in the village. In their spare time, villagers can also visit the Glenwood-Lynwood Library and browse through a collection of about 30,000 books. The Calumet Expressway, Interstate 80 and the Tri-State Tollway are close by. Commuters can also board a train from the Homewood station to travel into downtown Chicago; the trip takes around 40 minutes.
