San Carlos is almost exactly half way between San Jose and San Francisco. It is approximately 23 miles south of San Francisco and about 23 miles north of San Jose. The downtown recently went through extensive renovations, and is now one of the most charming towns in the peninsula.

The neighborhoods are well maintained with manicured lawns, tree-line streets, and neighborhood parks. Buying a home in San Carlos will put you among some of the most conscientious and friendly people in the bay area. The neighborhoods are renowned for their sense of community, and have block parties, holiday parties, and one street in particular draws crowds from around the Bay Area to see its coordinated light display.

There are a mix of apartments and single family homes as well as rental properties and home owners. The wonderful year-round weather in San Carlos affords its citizens ample opportunity to use their decks and backyards as well as the beautiful surrounding areas for hiking, biking, kayaking, and windsurfing. The downtown has boutique shopping, restaurants, and there are a few strip malls that service the grocery stores, Safeway and Trader Joes.

This wonderful mid-peninsula town is an ideal place for middle-income seniors, singles, and families alike. Families in particular enjoy the excellent schools in San Carlos. Specifically, at the town's two high schools, Carlmont and Sequoia, approximately 90% of seniors graduate, and about 93 % of those seniors go on to pursue higher education opportunities.
