Saugus, just 13 miles north of Boston is conveniently located along Route 1, a major north/south thoroughfare. The highway's "seven wonders" of colorful structures and large scale business signs is a road busy with commercial activity and shopping malls link Saugus with popular beach destinations on the North Shore. Route 1 is lined with some of New Englands finest restaurants.

In addition, Square One, a closed-in shopping mall, provides the town with attractive retail stores. Within the town itself, one will notice that Saugus still retains its rural characteristics. The two-hundred-year-old Town Hall and the historic Saugus Iron Works, each on the National Historic Register, are landmark tourist attractions. The Saugus River, which crosses through the town, provides an environmental habitat for many species of fish as well as a home for the largest lobster fishing fleet in Massachusetts.

Founders' Day is a time for businesses and residents to show off wares through sidewalk bazaars and to celebrate the town's historic past with a series of planned activities, an event that all who live here look forward to each September.

Open space around Saugus offers opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy an array of outdoor recreation. Breakheart Reservation, located off Lynn Fells Parkway in Saugus, has over 600 acres of land offering walking/jogging, bicycling, hiking, swimming, picnicking, fishing and cross country skiing. Additionally, Kasabuski Memorial Ice Rink, located at the entrance of Breakheart Reservation, is a municipal skating rink, used by many leagues for hockey.

Camp Nihan, on Walnut Street, offers approximately 47 acres of recreational land. Activities include ATV motoring, bicycling, non-motor boating, fresh water swimming and fishing, hiking, horseback riding and ice skating. Prankers Pond, another recreational area in town, offers 54 acres of picnicking and hiking. The town's unique setting allows industry and business to flourish, yet maintains a suburban style of living.
