Railroad access is currently and commuter rail connects Richland Hills to downtown Fort Worth and Dallas. Rider Request bus service is provided throughout the Richland Hills and to neighboring Fort Worth. Express bus service is available to downtown Fort Worth.
Students of Richland Hills are in the acclaimed Birdville Independent School District (BISD). The district has twenty-one elementary, seven middle, and four high schools. The district covers Richland Hills along with parts of Colleyville, Fort Worth, Haltom City, Hurst, North Richland Hills and Watauga. Within a ten-minute drive, Tarrant County College offers a wealth of classes. Several major colleges and universities are also within easy driving distance.

The city offers a wide variety of activities including preschool, youth, adult and senior citizen classes, plus special events and building rental. Three public parks offer tennis courts and jogging trails. The city of Richland Hills and surrounding areas provide an abundance of arts, recreation and sports attractions. The Metroplex is home to several renowned museums, symphony orchestras, ballet and dance companies, opera, theater and jazz organizations. Nearby recreation attractions include Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor. In addition, local lakes and country clubs provide other recreational opportunities such as sailing, fishing, water skiing and golf.
