In 1867, Elisha Adam Euless moved from Tennessee to Texas and purchased 170 acres on the present intersection of North Main Street and West Euless Boulevard. He had a cotton gin and a community center located on his property and became a prominent figure among other settlers. The community eventually grew around his land and settlers decided to name the city after this successful farmer and businessman.
Euless is a member of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. Together with Hurst and Bedford, this area forms one of the largest recognized suburban school districts in the state of Texas. Euless has four elementary schools, one junior high school, and one high school. In 2005, Euless's Trinity High School won the 5A Division 1 state football championship. Some Euless residents attend high schools in the Grapevine - Colleyville Independent School District, such as Bear Creek Elementary, Heritage Middle School, and Colleyville Heritage High School.Despite the city's growth, Euless officials have strived to preserve its historical significance by restoring two of the city's historic homes, the Fuller House and the Himes Log Cabin, and by obtaining a historical marker for Elisha Adam Euless from the Texas State Historical Commission.
Euless is an athlete's paradise, with The Parks at Texas Star offering top-notch facilities for baseball, softball, tee ball, soccer, batting cages and a driving range. For hockey fans, there's the Dr Pepper StarCenter, and golfers can enjoy the nationally recognized Texas Star Golf Course.
Among other city-wide celebrations, in October, the city hosts the annual Mid-Cities Greek Foodfest at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.Euless has since grown to a population of just over 51,000 in 2005.
