Located in northeast Tarrant County at the juncture of State Highway 121 and State Highway 183, Bedford is home to almost 50,000 residents and is part of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. Bedford grew quickly in the 1970s and 1980s, with the establishment of an industrial park, shopping centers, and restaurants, as well as the completion of the nearby Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
Residential development includes newly constructed gated communities, as well as older single family homes.
The city is known for its numerous festivals and celebrations each year. The Labor Day Bluesfest, held in late August, is Texas' number one outdoor blues festival. This family event features the best in live traditional and Texas roadhouse blues, as well as food and other entertainment. The city also presents 4th Fest every July, Halloween Fest every October, and Holiday Tree Lighting in December. Bedford is also home to the Red River Bowl, a junior college football tournament held every December.
