Quincy, a city situated on Boston Harbor and Quincy Bay, just 9 miles south of Boston, is a thriving South Shore community. Nicknamed, the City of Presidents, Quincy was the birthplace of two American presidents, John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams. Their family homestead still stands in Quincy. The city has had a long history as a residential and industrial center in the Boston Metropolitan area.

Though it began modestly as an outlying colonial community settled by traders and farmers, Quincy grew to great prominence as a shipbuilding and manufacturing city. Quincy attracted waves of immigrants who found employment in the quarries and shipyards. These diverse groups staked out enclaves and formed unique neighborhoods throughout Quincy. First settled in 1625, Quincy was incorporated as a town in 1792 and reached city status by 1888. The original rural agricultural economy evolved over time to encompass fishing and shipbuilding.

First settled in 1625, Quincy was incorporated as a town in 1792 and reached city status by 1888. The original rural agricultural economy evolved over time to encompass fishing and shipbuilding as residents made use of the community's harborside location. Generations of merchant and naval ships have been launched from Quincy. Facilities like the Fore River shipyard operated at a frenzied pace during the Second World War. Though the shipyard has been closed since 1986, its former site is now the location for the United States Shipbuilding Museum and home of the heavy cruiser, the USS Salem.

In addition to its economics importance, Quincy has existed for decades as a well-established bedroom community for Boston. Quiet suburban neighborhoods of tree-lined streets of handsome homes characterize many sections of the city that also features a commercially thriving downtown as well as many other centers for business and retail activity. Quincy also has scenic appeal, with stunning vistas of the Boston skyline and great stretches of sand and surf at Wollaston Beach along Quincy Shore Drive. The community attracts visitors with its beauty.
