An upscale community of 10,211, Barrington is located approximately 35 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and occupies part of both Cook and Lake Counties. Once the home of the tribes of Pottawatomi and Mascouten Indians, it features an abundant wildlife population and several nature preserves amidst a beautiful rustic setting.

The town offers residents a large number of leisure activities from which to choose. Since 1998, the school district has built four new elementary schools, completely renovated four other elementary schools, added on to one middle school, and completed major renovations and additions to Barrington High School.
