A Chicago neighborhood that's located in the city's Irving Park community 17 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Old Irving Park is bordered by Montrose, Pulaski, Addison and Kostner. It boasts more than 120 architecturally significant bungalows, in addition to Queen Anne-style homes, Italianate residences, Victorians, and large, vintage frame houses with distinctive wrap-around porches. Prices range from the low $200,000s to $600,000 or more. Condominiums, apartment rental units, two-flats, and townhomes are also available. The population of Old Irving Park is approximately 50,000. Located at 3711-3721 North Milwaukee Avenue in the Old Irving Park neighborhood is a collection of newly-constructed single-family homes that are part of a gated community. The Irving Park Historical Society was formed in 1984 to help preserve many of the beautiful homes that dot the neighborhood. Since then, many homes have remained intact or have been restored. In fact, a survey taken by Irving Park Historical Society volunteers showed that there are still several hundred buildings in the neighborhood that predate 1894. The Historical Society holds an annual housewalk that showcases the area's architecturally significant homes, including some examples of the Prairie School of Architecture. There is easily accessible transportation in the Old Irving Park neighborhood. The CTA Blue Line train is nearby, and CTA buses have routes on Irving Park Road, Cicero Avenue and Montrose Avenue. The Kennedy Expressway is also close by. There are plenty of restaurants in the Irving Park neighborhood including Brudder's on North Pulaski Road, Lavilla Restaurant and Pizzeria, also on Pulaski and Old Irving Park Tap Sports Bar on Irving Park Road. In terms of shopping, Old Irving has many smaller shopping areas, each with its own selection of bakeries, pubs, delis, and retail shops. There are a number of elementary, middle and high schools in the community. Many students attend Schurz High School, which is on North Milwaukee Avenue.
