Redwood Shores started to emerge as an independent community in the 1960's. In the late 1960s to early 1970s the city began as a General Improvement District and today it is one of the gems of the peninsula area. Redwood Shores is a planned community with everything you could want: restaurants, shopping plazas, outdoor and indoor recreational facilities, and a number of residential neighborhoods.

This community is also home to a number of high-tech companies, including the headquarters of software giants, Oracle Corporation and Electronic Arts. Residential real estate sales in Redwood Shores are dominated by condominium and town homes, as many of the neighborhoods are clusters of condominiums surrounding the bay, a lagoon, ponds, or other attractive water features.
