Redwood Shores started to emerge as an independent community in the 1960's. In the late 1960s to early 1970s the city began as a General Improvement District and today it is one of the gems of the peninsula area. Redwood Shores is a planned community with everything you could want: restaurants, shopping plazas, outdoor and indoor recreational facilities, and a number of residential neighborhoods.

This community is also home to a number of high-tech companies, including the headquarters of software giants, Oracle Corporation and Electronic Arts.
