Chelmsford, in the Merrimack River Valley of Massachusetts is just 24 miles northwest of Boston, and offers both proximity to other communities and the appeal of a small New England town. Chelmsford is crossed by Route 3 and Interstate 495, making it an ideal community to raise a family within reasonable distance to Boston, Lowell and Worcester. There are five public elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school. Students can also attend Nashoba Valley Technical High School in nearby Westford or a charter middle school within Chelmsford.

Additionally, the active town government provides residents with a full-time police department and fire department. Incorporated in 1655, Chelmsford began a "praying town" refuge for Christianized Native Americans. The town grew as a community of agriculture and dairy lands. Later there was brick making and granite quarrying which continues to the present.

The town of Chelmsford features a variety of historic buildings such as the Italianate structure that now houses the Department of Recreation. This and other buildings are preserved by the Chelmsford Center Historic District Commission.

With Agriculture gone, Chelmsford is currently a community of residential developments. Homes here are of more contemporary construction, but with traditional colonial and Cape Cod styles typical of New England suburbs. Chelmsford's population of 32,000 residents lives in an area of 22 square miles. This bedroom community has commuter rail access to Boston in neighboring Lowell which borders Chelmsford on the north. Also to the north is the town of Tyngsborough. Westford is to the west; Carlisle is to the south; and Tewksbury and Billerica are to the east.

The Town of Chelmsford also has a Conservation Commission that maintains a number of preserved lands. These lands provide wide areas of protected natural beauty offering hiking trails for residents and visitors.

In August 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Chelmsford, MA was $342,767. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
