The history of the City of Lewisville dates back to 1841 when the Republic of Texas gave a grant to the Texas Emigration and Land Company to bring 600 families to what is now Denton County. Each family received 640 acres of land. Today, the City of Lewisville is 89,000 people strong and is located between the city of Coppell to the south and Denton to the north.

Perhaps most notable about the City of Lewisville is that it houses Lake Lewisville, a Corps of Engineers reservoir that is immensely popular for water sports and outdoor recreation in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The City of Lewisville manages Lake Park on the south shore of the lake and includes picnic areas, RV and tent camping, pavilions, a 24-hour fishing barge, and a swimming beach. Marinas, boat rentals, launch ramps, and angler's supplies are also available. Anglers enjoy Lake Lewisville with catches that include large-mouth bass, crappie, catfish, and white bass. Additional favorite activities include swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, sail boarding, camping, biking, and picnicking.

Recently, Old Town Lewisville has been revitalized featuring buildings from the early decades of the 20th century housing shopping, casual dining, and office space. The charming, ambiance of Old Town comes to life with frequent concerts and special events throughout the year. Additionally, during the summer months, families convene for picnicking at the Vista Ridge Amphitheater for free concerts.

The city of Lewisville is served by the Lewisville Independent School District and recently, Texas Monthly ranked Killough Lewisville High School North as first among Texas high schools.

House-hunters can find a good mix of old and new in this mature city. Some ranch-style, 1970s homes can be found in older parts of the area, but newer, more contemporary floorplans are scattered throughout many neighborhoods in Lewisville.
