Baltimore Washington International Airport, I-95, and the I-695 Beltway, making both the metropolitan areas of Baltimore and Washington DC easily accessible.
Elkridge is celebrated for its picturesque old architecture, including the world's oldest stone curved bridge, known as the Thomas Viaduct, which was erected in 1833 by the well known Baltimore architect Benjamin Latrobe. The Thomas Viaduct proved important in the development of Elkridge's economy, which thrived with the growth of the B&O Railroad Company.
Although the B&O Railroad is long defunct, the town of Elkridge continues to flourish as a popular residential community. In addition to its stately 19th century era farmhouses, Elkridge has a multitude of newer construction, with spacious open floor plans, brick and vinyl siding facades, and traditional colonial architecture, as well as more modern Italianate designs with large Palladian windows on the second story. Home buyers seeking a townhouse in a planned community will be happy to discover generously sized options, most of which come with one or two car garages.
Like neighboring Ellicott City and Columbia, Elkridge boasts a desirable Howard County location, but is decidedly more affordable, with median home prices under $400,000. Residents of Elkridge can take advantage of all of the cultural attractions found in the planned community of Columbia, including their 230-store mall, variety of restaurants, Merriwether Post Pavilion, and 80 miles of trails, but also has a number of golf courses, movie theatres, libraries, and recreational facilities right in its own backyard.
In April 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Elkridge, MD was $385,022. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
