Mountain View is home to 70,708 residents and to many nationally and internationally known corporations. It is the fifth most populated town in the Bay Area behind Fremont. The town hosts a number of cultural fairs and activities on a regular basis such as a weekly farmers' market, a wine festival, and the Affribean Festival. The proximity to San Jose, "the valley" and a number of local and state parks and reserves make this seven square mile town an attractive place to call home.
The City of Mountain View has developed some of the finest recreation facilities the Bay Area has to offer. Its park system includes an regional park created from reclaimed landfill. Shoreline at Mountain View Park features an 18-hole golf course, a sailing lake and a wild life interpretive trail. The Civic Center has one of the finest theater facilities in Northern California as well as a 60,000 square foot state-of-the-art library.
The demographic profile of the area is split almost equally between renters and homeowners. Home sales in Mountain View are dominated by the sale and resale of condominiums. Mountain View is in the heart of Silicon Valley and is home to many single professionals, students and professors (Stanford University and Santa Clara University are close by), and young families. Families in particular are attracted to Mountain View real estate because of the highly respected school system. Specifically, 99% of high school seniors graduate from high school, and a large percentage of those graduates go on to pursue higher education opportunities. Commercial real estate is moving in the town as well, and a number of high tech and life science companies call Mountain View home.
