The town of Antioch is located on the San Joaquin River in Contra Costa County. According to the town's website: "The availability of quality and affordable housing is unsurpassed in the Bay Area. The city of Antioch was incorporated in 1872 and currently encompasses approximately 28 square miles. With a population nearing 90,000, Antioch has become the heart of Eastern Contra Costa County, offering a variety of employment, shopping and vast recreational activities. Buying a home in Antioch will put you in a beautiful waterside community with access to both a number of outdoor recreation options (such as wine country, Tahoe, Yosemite, and the Santa Cruz mountains) and bigger city options (such as San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and San Jose) are not far away.
The Antioch school system has an impressive reputation. The student to teacher ratio is low and averages about 1:20.
