Wittman is a tiny community west of metropolitan Phoenix, whose closest city neighbor is Surprise. It has a population of approximately 4,100 and is a community that has changed little in more than thirty years. In Wittman you will find no sidewalks or stop lights. You will find an elementary school, a convenience store, a bar, a subway and a volunteer fire department. It is hard to believe this is part of the metro-area of the country's fifth largest city.
There is also a small community center in Whittman that on special occasions, such as the Fourth of July, is used for community BBQs. Turnout for such events is minimal, as this community has a more detached and independent personality. They enjoy the peaceful solitude they find living on large parcels with the desert stretching out around them, as there is little to spoil their view of the Sonoran Desert. Many have a variety of recreational toys such as quads, dune buggies and sand rails. They enjoy the view of the expansive desert floor while out on a ride and Whittman makes an ideal location for this type of lifestyle.
Other Whittman residents appreciate the freedom from the restrictive nature of homeowners associations that are so dominant in other communities. Whittman offers hobbyists a wonderful opportunity to pursue their hobbies without disturbing a soul.
Whittman is one of the few remaining commmunities around the metro area of the nation's fifth largest city where residents can enjoy so much freedom, to enjoy a lifestyle that the more congested communities can not and that keeps Whittman's populous from doing anything to incorporate and change all the benefits they have enjoyed for so many years.
Home prices in this small community range from $89,000 to nearly one million. It is the largest price range of any community its size in the Phoenix metro area. If you are looking for an inexpensive home and work in Surprise, you may consider Whittman as an affordable alternative.
