Sun City West, by Del Webb was started in the late 1970s, after the completion of Sun City, to meet the needs of the flow of retirees moving to Arizona. It is an affordable active adult community according to the number posted on the Sun City West visitors page. Sun City West has a slightly lower population than that of its sister community just over 26,000 residents.
Sun City West offers approximately 90 different elevations and plans to choose from. Single family homes range from 920 square feet to 3500 square feet, from 2 to 4 bedrooms with 1 to 3 car garages, so there is truly has something for every taste. Less common, but equal as tasteful are the duplexes and patio homes in Sun City Grand. If mid-rise living is what you want, Grandview Terrace offers luxury condominiums.
Sun City West offers four recreation centers, the largest of which is the R.H. Johnson Center with 118,000 square feet under roof. It is the largest recreation center in Arizona. The Sun City West recreation centers offers everything, ballrooms, pool, billiard and snooker tables, racquetball and handball courts, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor walking tracks, bowling lanes, mini-golf, shuffleboard courts, bocce courts, lawn bowling rinks, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a softball field.
The centers also offer plenty of rooms for social club activities, card games, classes and arts and crafts. There are even plots for those who wish to garden, storage space for boats and RVs. Sun Cities Saddle Club offers residents stable services, and Sun City West also has a dog park where residents take their four legged friends to play. There is so very much to do and we haven't even mentioned the golf yet!
Sun City West has nine courses to choose from. The Briarwood Country Club has earned the reputation of being one of the friendliest in the valley and is a private club and course. It is also home to the Hillcrest Golf Club which is owned by the world-renowned John Jacobs Golf Schools. It is open to the public and hosts PGA and LPGA tour events.
Sun City West has a nationally ranked hospital to serve it residents. It also offers retailers to meet every need of Sun City West's residents, grocers, hardware stores, dry cleaners, cobblers, clothing stores, automobile repair shops and number of great restaurants.
