Arlington is a very small agricultural community of just under 500, located forty miles west of Phoenix. It is a peaceful and serene community who still earn their living just as the early settlers to the Arlington Valley did, farming, albeit with a certain amount of modern conveniences. There is something very refreshing, when you leave the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle and gaze upon the fertile fields of green laid out against the vastness of the desert landscape to the west and framed by the Estrella Mountains to the east. At first glance you are you are captivated by the beauty of this farming oasis in the desert.
In 1900, shortly after the articles of incorporation for Arlington were filed, it was touted as a rival to the Salt River Valley, with one notable exception, the Arlington Canal was owned outright by the farmers and ranchers of Arlington. S.E. Chapin believed it would be the richest area of the valley. Even with the abundance of crops such as sorghum, cotton, beets, corn, and grain, the big ticket item, alfalfa, and the cattle and dairy operations, Arlington did not see the town grow as did nearby Buckeye. Even with the arrival of the railroad, Arlington's population did not explode. Arlington residents did however profit and enjoy a wonderful quality of life in their small close knit community, a quality of life that continues to this day, 100 years later.
Arlington residents enjoy things many have never experienced by those living in the city. One such experience is the exhilaration of watching storms roll in over the valley. In Arlington the sky rolls on in a seemingly endless fashion, so it is quite spectacular to watch the clouds racing across the sky building into large cotton like masses shooting out vibrant beams of violet and gold as they envelope the sun, that just moments ago was shining brightly, undisturbed by any other heavenly objects. The trees and the crops beginning to sway, thunder rumbling in the distance and the scent of rain rolling in, are all typical in early summer when the afternoon monsoons come calling in the Arlington Valley.
And as if the heavens had an eraser, in an hour or so the sky is once again clear and blue and the sun again stands alone lighting upon the drops of rain sparkling on the fields of green; and once more it is a beautiful sunny summer day in this tranquil valley. This allure has brought a few new residents in recent years, which have the privilege through the advents modernity has provided, to work from home. They have stated their quality of life was elevated immediately and that they would not trade the slower pace, for the convenience of having any number of retail outlets in their immediate proximity.
The average sales price for a single family home or condo in February 2010 was $49,167. This information is gleaned from MLS data, and while deemed reliable, is not guaranteed.
