World-famous Orlando is located approximately 10 miles from the majestic oak trees of Oakland.
Oakland residents can enjoy day trips to the much sought-after theme parks of Orlando including Universal Studios, Disney’s Fort Wilderness, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, MGM Studios, and Sea World. Shopping malls, specialty shops, and delectable cuisines are all part of Orlando’s enchantment. The romantic sands of Cocoa Beach are sited approximately one hour and twenty minutes from the tranquility of Oakland. The West Orange Trailhead begins at Killarney Station and goes north into Apopka. The West Orange Trailhead consists of 22 miles of Florida beauty with five trailheads and five outposts along the way to enter and leave the trail at your discretion. Walking, jogging, biking, and rollerblading are all encouraged along the trail. At mile 15, Clarcona Horseman’s Park, an equestrian trail parallels the paved trail for 10 miles. Picnic pavilions are placed at most of the trailheads and outposts, so bring lunch and make a day of it. The Oakland Nature Preserve provides for a peaceful stroll on a 2/3-mile boardwalk that leads through Florida’s picturesque wetlands to a covered pavilion on gorgeous Lake Apopka where residents enjoy fishing and boating.
Oakland’s fertile soils and warm Central Florida climate was the sight of many orange groves and home to many wealthy grove owners.
