Marvelous Montverde, Florida is located on the western shores of lovely Lake Apopka, approximately 17 miles south of Tavares and 30 miles from Leesburg. Montverde is just over a half hour to the excitement of Orlando with the magic of Disney World, Epcot, MGM Studios, Sea World, Universal Studios, and Wet ‘n Wild. The white sands of Clearwater Beach are sited just over two hours from this quaint locale. Montverde is just minutes to County Road 455, Florida’s Turnpike, and the East-West Expressway.
Spanish for “green mountain”, Montverde is believed to have been named by a native of Vermont who was impressed with the area’s rolling green hills. The first homesteaders arrived in the Montverde area around 1865. The thick woods that existed at that time, in later years gave way to orange groves and industry. The original manufacturing plant of the Snapper Lawnmower was in Montverde where the creators, who are brothers, Alex and Neal Smith lived.
Montverde has been able to maintain its small town charm for its estimated 3,500 residents. Montverde is approximately 22 miles from Rollins College in Winter Park, 29 miles from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, and about 38 miles from Stetson University in Deland.
