Gorgeous Groveland, Florida is perfectly placed in the lush green hills of south Lake County. Incorporated in 1922, Groveland is a growing community that is proud to maintain its small town charm. Located among many lovely lakes, the town of Groveland is placed at the crossroads of State Road 50, State Road 19, and State Road 33 just minutes from the Florida Turnpike.
Groveland is located just 27 miles west of Orlando and its famous restaurants, shops, and theme parks including Sea World, Universal Studios, and Disney World. Historic Tampa is sited just 70 miles from Groveland. Groveland is nearby to South Lake Hospital and the Special Olympics Florida year-round training center.
The citrus industry has played an important part in the history of Groveland. Resident, J.W. Beach started a perfume manufacturing plant, The Essential Oil Company in 1923, where he made his rare perfumes from roses, English heliotrope, and the abundant orange trees; however, the business did not flourish as Beach had anticipated. Groveland has experienced many types of industry including citrus, lumber, and tourism. All of these industries and Groveland’s picturesque locale have led to Groveland’s continued growth of a current population of 6,500.
Today, the residents of Groveland enjoy many amenities including several beautiful parks with picnic pavilions, children’s playgrounds, volleyball and basketball courts, grills, baseball fields, and more. Groveland also boasts a community center with a veteran’s park in the front courtyard that is dedicated to veterans of the Korean War. Groveland residents come together throughout the year to enjoy events such as an Arbor Day celebration and a Fourth of July celebration.
Groveland is part of the Lake County Public School System with several schools located close by. Residents of Groveland looking to achieve higher education can do so at well-respected institutions of higher learning that are sited nearby including Lake-Sumter Community College that is only 11 miles away offering University of Central Florida and Saint Leo University extended campuses.
