Pronounced "Pear-land", after the once abundant fruit trees that earned its namesake, Pearland, Texas a commuter suburb 20 minutes south of downtown Houston. Spanning Brazoria, Fort Bend and Harris Counties, Pearland's population has blossomed from 37,640 in 2000 to an estimated 52,402 in 2004, testament to the unprecedented growth that has made Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area the 7th fastest growing area in the nation.
