The City of Fresno is making friends fast, with its prime location on State highway 6 and FM 521 due south of downtown Houston. Following growing residential interest in this largely undeveloped swath of Ft. Bend County, developers have recently built large bedroom communities over what was once forest and grassland.
In 1946 the Fresno population had barely peeked over 100, a level maintained throughout the 1960s; however, due to Houston's growing petro-chemical and shipping industry during the 70s and 80s the Fresno's population increased more rapidly. Today, Fresno, Texas has a population estimated at 6,603 and growing.
Fresno physically borders Houston to the north, the suburban Fort Bend County cities of Missouri City to the northwest and west, Arcola to the south and southeast and Pearland to the east and northeast. The diversity of the Fresno Area is becoming one of its main draws. The median income for a family in the Fresno area was $48,824 in 2000, higher than the city of Houston overall.
Children in the Fresno area are served the Fort Bend Independent School District. High school students in Fresno attend Hightower High School in Missouri City, whose campus has a full-fledged media and medical academy, as well as the new district wide athletic complex, built in 2004. Some of the largest communities in Fresno are the communities that comprise Fresno's Municipal Utility District #23.
Teal Run, the oldest of the neighborhoods, started in the early 1990s, The Estates of Teal Run, located at the intersection of Raab and Sycamore Road, started in 1999, Teal Run North, started in 2001, Villages of Teal Run and Teal Run Meadows. There are over 3,100 total homes in the Fort Bend MUD #23 area in 2006. NewPoint Estates, located across from Teal Run at Hwy 6 and Darby Rd, is an area for acreage type home sites, stables and expensive properties. A number of Houston area professional athletes make this neighborhood home.
