Atascocita is a large master-planned community in the fast growing Greater Humble Area 18 miles northeast of downtown Houston. Encompassing over 15 neighborhoods, heavily forested Atascocita is bordered by the San Jacinto River to the north, Lake Houston to the east and is bisected by FM 1960.
Today, nearly 50,000 residents call Atascocita home. The community contains numerous parks, country clubs, and golf courses, including Tour 18, a recreation of some of Americas most celebrated golf holes. Most of the individual subdivisions in Atascocita feature their own parks, swimming pools, tennis courts, and easy access to recreational facilities.
Concentrated home building in this area began in 1975. This suburban community offers large, country-club style homes as well as smaller homes in well-planned subdivisions. Additionally, area residents enjoy two community recreational facilities including the 120-acre Lindsay Lyons Park/Sports Center. This mammoth facility features a playground and barbecue pavilion, in addition to athletic fields and facilities for soccer, baseball, football, and softball.
Lake Houston on its eastern border, water recreation is a vital draw for the area. Formed by the damming of the San Jacinto River, Lake Houston offers excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating and skiing. With access from numerous public boat ramps, fishing enthusiasts are drawn to more than a dozen varieties of fish found in the lake.
Boating enthusiasts find the lake supports excellent depths to accommodate powerboats, ski boats, bass boats and jet skis. Human-powered, shallow-draft vessels such as canoes and kayaks are popular for navigating the breathtaking scenery and native wildlife of the lake, the San Jacinto River and Spring Creek.
New residential communities in the Atascocita area in recent years include Eagle Springs and Summerwood. Atascocita residents are served by the Humble Independent School District.
